When I first heard of ragging, it was during my first year college. That was where seniors (second year and third year students) approached me and asked me for many favours. If I do follow their orders or their requests, I will be 'protected'. I will be given many privileges within the campus. If I do not follow their orders, I will be severely punished.
The question is whether ragging is common in any institutions or it is just a myth. I don't think it is a myth. It is for real. It has been for a long time that seniors do bully juniors by asking them to do anything for the seniors. Why? It is because it is the senior's turn to do ragging on juniors. Previously the seniors were juniors. They were being treated unfiarly before. They will keep on ragging on juniors to express their authority and power.
I do feel sorry for the army officer who had to swallow his own vomit. The papers said that the motive behind it was purely revenge. I don't know what went wrong here. Nobody knows. The only person who knows is the person who has committed the act. He would know why he asked the army officer to swallow his own vomit. That is so disgusting! How could someone do that to another human being? Are we not living in a harmony society? Are we not living in Planet Earth?
I was lucky as I moved college after a few months. I do not need to suffer so much. Yes, I did suffer. I really hope that ragging should be ban. In fact, the IGP should take this type of cases seriously and bring justice to the victim and those who were affected by it.
Amen.
