Slave Trade

Everyone is talking about the salve trade nowdays. In fact, it has been a hot topic for the past two months as Britain was getting ready to commenmorate the 200 years of the abolition of the Slave Tade since 1807. Hurray for Britain! The question is whether the abolition of the salve trade has led to the abolition of slaves in the world. Well, not really.

Before I get into that, it is important to understand the concept and the reason behind the slave trade. Why was it so important to the British economy? The answer it simple - cheap labour. Having cheap labour, it was used to drive the British economy. No wonder Britain colonised many countries in the past. One of the reasons would be to import cheap labour to help Britain to build up its empire. I wonder.... Have they ever thought about having a slave would restrict a person'ss freedom of movement? It is like being chained and bound to the slave's master for life unless his master were to set him free. I am talking in the sense that it involves men and women too.

I do not agree with the idea of having a slave at all. It is just not right. How could someone restrict a person's life like that even though they have done nothing wrong? Think about it. People who were being bought and sold as slaves had to endure the hardship onboard ships to be sold. Many died along the way but will anyone care about their life at all?

PM Tony Blair was right to aplogies for Britain's role in the slave trade. It is immoral and should not have been done in the past. He was compassionate in aplogising. I do feel angry for what had happened but it is all in the past already. Can we forgive what has happened in the past?

Ha! Saw my friend on BBC One's Abolition debate on Point West. Ha! Excellent!!! Saw his face on TV! Too bad as he was not called as they do not have the time to go through all the ten questions. He was the tenth person to ask the question. Way to go!!!
