The problem is that some of its VAIO range does not have support for XP! Sometimes you will see that if you try to install XP on your VAIO, some of your applications will not work (e.g. build in camera or sound card). It is really frustrating. Moreover, if you were to call them, the customer service advisor will tell you that you need to log on to www.vaio-link.com to look for your Vaio's drivers. The problem is that you might not find your Vaio's installed drivers on the given link! That is really crazy but it happens!
You do not expect a company like Sony to behave like this but they do. I think they are beginning to lose the plot. Unlike Sony, Dell's support is much better because you can always log on to Dell.com to look for the updated drivers and they always update their drivers. It seems to me that they have a better after sales service in terms of updating their drivers. You can always downgrade to XP from Vista on your Dell at any point but you can't do it on Sony Vaio! If you do, you will fail unless you have special clearance from Sony.
I do like the Sony screen though but that is not the end. Couple with bad drivers, I think you need to think twice before buying a Sony Vaio. Just don't look at it as being cute and beautiful. You need to think about it twice before buying it. Trust me.
Oh yes, get yourself a Mac! I think that is the safest thing to do. Mac does not attract as many viruses as IBM compatible PCs or notebooks and certainly the OS is so much stable than Microsoft's Vista. With the upcoming Leopard OS in a few days time, get yourself a Mac!!!
