Overclocking

Recently I have tried overclocking my PC as I have read from many forums indicating that the Intel Q6600 is a beast! It is quite overclockable without blowing a big hole on your wallet. I have then tried to do an experiment on my PC.

My rig has the following specifications:

Intel Q6600 with Artic Cooling Freezer Pro 7

Gigabyte P35-DS3R mobo

4x 1GB DDR2-800 Kingston Value Ram

Gigabyte Silent 8600GT graphics card

Onboard Gigabyte Lan and HD sound

15" Dell monitor with keyboard, mouse and speakers

What I did was to increase the FSB from 266x9 to 327x9 which would give me a rough idea of 3.0Ghz. I then have to increase the Voltage to the CPU by 0.1. I also have to increase the voltage to the PCI-E and the memory by 0.1.

I then fire up the computer and see what will happen next.

The start screen shows that I do have a 3.0ghz processor running at 327x9. It then went to Windows XP without any problems. I then check on my pc using CPU-Z and it says that my FSB has been increased from 1066 to 1333 mhz and the memory has been increased to 499.5 mhz. Wow! That is great! Fingers crossed as the system is quite stable at the moment and I do not have any trouble in playing CPU intensive games like NFS: Carbon or NFS: Pro Street. It goes the same to STALKER and also UT 2003. Not a problem at all.

The down side to this overclocking procedure is that I've noticed the temperature for the CPU increased from 30c to 40c and the fan is running at 1600rpm instead of 1300 rpm. It is a little bit louder right now but it is alright.

However, I benchmark my pc using pcpitstop and it gave my pc a score of 6660! That is cool! It is an increase of more than 1000 points after overclocking the pc. oh well, it is just temporary as I do not want long term problems arising from the overclocking. Glad to know that Intel is doing its job very well! Bravo!
