Nokia E71 firmware

As you know, there are three versions of the Nokia E71,namely the E71-1, the E71-2 and the E73-3 which you all would be able to read all about its specifications on the Nokia website. I am here not to indulge in its capabilities but its functionality.

I am always a big fan of Nokia phones since the beginning of 2004. Before that, I was really interested in Motorola phones but since Motorola phones are quite slow in releasing new models, attention had to be done on other manufactureres like Nokia. Basically, I quite like the way how Nokia works but nevertheless, Nokia has its downside too.

Lets talk about Nokia. They are pretty good in releasing new models throughout the years. However, during recent months, Samsung, HTC, LG and Sony Ericsson are quite active in releasing newer models with better features and it threatens Nokia's crown as the number one mobile phone manufacturer in the world. The question remains - will Nokia retain its crown?

Before anyone can come to a conclusion, you would have to see whether it is jsuticiable to drop Nokia as the number two mobile manufacturer in the world now. They release many new models throughout the year and it caters for low range, mid range and also the high range. Look at their profile - Phones like the E90, E71, E65 and E66 are catered towards business people and the upcoming E72 and E75 will be kept a close eye by people as it is quite interesting.

Why? Look at E71. It is barely being sold in the world since July 2008 and they are looking at releasing the E72 very soon? I Don't think so. If that is the case, Nokia will lose a lot of money developing it when people wait for the E72. The E71 is a major revise of the not so popular E61i which was big and squar~ish. The concept of the E71 is a good competitor to the mighty Blackberry phones which, many business people will use it.

I have to say that I still prefer the Nokia E71 to the Blackberry Bold 9000 simply because the Nokia E71 is more user friendly then the Blackberry Bold 9000. Many business people will disagree with me because the Blackberry is traditionally a businessman or a businesswoman's tool. They will be able to receive e-mails without the need to connect through a server. E-mails will arrive automatically.

Well, it is the same with the many Nokia phones nowdays as they do have push e-mails. On my Nokia E71, I can set e-mails to arrive when it arrives so that I do not need to think about connecting to the server to retrieve my e-mails. I would prefer the Nokia simply because I am so used to the user friendliness of the Symbian OS and it is very good compared to the Blackberry OS. You do not get many applications to run on the Blackberry OS. Look at Symbian, you have tons of softwares to run with it. I am happy with that.

Look at the Nokia E71. The keypad is superb and RF is very good too but what is going with its firmware update? There are no newer firmware on the Nokia E71 except for the 100.45.75 firmware. Oh dear, what is Nokia doing over there? No updates yet for three months? I don't blame Nokia. This is because the E71 is not really being sold widely in the UK unless you are willing to pop over to a Vodafone shop. That is all. I have posted an article regarding the availability of newer handsets to Vodafone in the UK on my previous post.

There are many things which Nokia can do right now. Please release a newer firmware to address the many issues that would be able to enhance the Nokia E71. One of which would be the quality of the 3.2MP digital camera. Pictures being taken are not that brilliant and there is an issue with the shuttle speed too. The next thing would be in the event of a push e-mails. I can't delete my e-mails unless I sign on and then delete the e-mails and then disconnect from the Push e-mails. Only then, I would be able to see that my e-mails have been deleted. That is pretty lame, don't you think so?

I would also like Nokia to address the speed of the menu. It is not fast enough and there was a time where by I can sense that the phone was about to crash but it did not when I tried to run Vodafone Sat Nav while the internet was running at the background. The last and most important thing of all is that Nokia should address the Internet Browser as it always crash when I tried to post a blog on blogger.com!!! What is going on there? Is it a fault with Microsoft or Nokia?

Anyway, I am pretty impressed with the Nokia E71 as the battery can really last. Good work Nokia!!!
