When you pop over to any O2 UK, T-mobile or Orange stores, you would not find the mighty Nokia E71. In fact, you would never be able to see a demo set even on their shop floor. I was amazed at the speed of other telcos in coming out with the latest mobile phones. I gather that Vodafone is the first of all telcos to get their hands on the latest phones. One good example will be the Nokia N95 8GB. They managed to sell the Nokia N95 8GB one to three months before other telcos got the chance to sell them. That is why they are getting the advantage from Nokia. It will be the same for any other mobile phones.
What about the Nokia E72 then? I have seen the leaked video on youtube about the latest gadgets from Nokia, the E75 which is supposed to replace the good old E66 and also the Nokia E72 which is supposed to replace the E71. Oh no... This would mean that the E71 is obsolete!!! Oh never mind, it is just a bump. Techonology is very advanced so it does not really matter. I find that the Nokia E71 is very pleasant to use and after one week of using it, I don't have any complains about it. I think the Nokia E72 will be something like the Nokia N96, which is an upgrade to the popular N95 8GB. I think not many people will want the N96 as there are nothing special about it compared to the N95 8GB except for the increased 16GB of storage space on the phone.
The shape of the N96 is much rounder but nothing has changed. The screen has not been changed to OLED. Oh well, at 2.8", I don't think the techonology is mature yet for OLED. Anyway, I am very curious in knowing the specifications of the E72. Perhaps the E72 will be Symbian OS 9.1 with FP2 this time instead of FP1 (from Nokia E71). We will wait and see. I would love to see whether Nokia is going to do anything to lower the SAR on the Nokia E72 as the E71 as I am using right now is 1.33w/kg. It is significantly higher than the E90 which I have been using at 0.66w/kg.
Stay tuned.
