I do understand that AMD is trying to amend the losing 'Barcelona' 65nm cpus which they released over the last one year. Several cpus were delayed and some earlier versions had the nasty TLB in it. Well, AMD made some amendments and came out with the Black Edition cpus to compensate for the losses. Those Black Edition cpus will enable consumers to overclock their cpus without interferring with the locked FSB. It is equivalent to Intel's Extreme Edition cpus. One word for it - Intel's extreme edition cpus are really pricey while the AMD's Black Editions are not.
Yes, we have knowledge about the upcoming i7 cpus by Intel. It will feature more L2 cache and L3 cache and it is a good contender to AMD's Hypertransport system. Since Intel has decided to ditch the FSB, it will look good on the specification sheet. What I am wondering whether it is worth while having the i7. I think when it is launched, it will be expensive but it will be cheaper as the day goes by. By then, you will be able to have a piece of it for a fraction of the original price, right? Way to go!!!
I am really looking forward to seeing AMD's 'Shanghai' cpus. Apparently, they are manufactured on a 45nm wafer and it is supposed to be more energy efficient and more powerful. We will have to wait and see when it is released at the end of this year. Looks like Intel would have to buck up their cpus now.
