Pentium 4 Socket 423

I am sure that you have heard about Intel Pentium 4 Socket 423 Motherboards. Back in 2002, it was the birth of Pentium 4 (with Willmath Core)which begins with a clock speed of 1.3 Ghz. Sounds little, right? Well, it was the very first time Intel produced Pentium 4 to counter attack AMD.

Since then, there was no problem in using the first generation of P4 until recently. The motherboard's onboard sound card would not work. I have tried to install a PCI sound card but no joy. I have even tried using usb sound card but the windows XP OS could not successfully identify the usb sound card even I had the proper driver with me. There was something wrong with the motherboard itself which I could not comprehend.

I then took the tower to a shop and he confirmed that the motherboard is faulty due to some faulty capacitors surrounding the CPU socket. I could not imagine getting a replacement for the Intel Socket 423 motherboard as not many people knew that it existed! I went to many places to get a replacement for the Mercury Socket 423 motherboard but could not get one. Well, I tried asking for any Socket 423 motherboard but I was left empty handed.

After going to many shop, I finally arrive at a shopping complex which many people will know - LowYat Plaza. I have to say this to all of you - It is THE place to shop for electronic gadgets. Shop around that building and you will be able to get a good bargain for yourself. I have managed to get an Intel P4 Socket 423 motherboard but it only comes with RDRAM memory slots. I don't have RDRAM with me. (just in case you are wondering what is RDRAM, it is actually memory produced by Rambus, hence Rambus Memory).

On my old Socket 423 motherboard, it is actually using PC133 SDRAM. I would not want to replace the motherboard and also the memory as it will not be cost effective. Finally, I came to a shop and they do have an ECS motherboard which allows users to choose either PC133 SDRAM or DDR memory. I was overjoyed! For a mere RM120, I gave my old pc a new life. The motherboard runs faster than the old Mercury motherboard which was originally installed inside the pc. I am really happy that I did not spend too much to replace the old pc parts. I don't really want to throw the whole pc away because it is still workable! Don't you think recycling is good?
