Update on Ubuntu Linux

Yes, I have been testing out Ubuntu 8.10. It is fairly a new product to me and I have been longing to use one of these free distributions for years. No doubt that I have tried to use Ubuntu when it was first released, it was then still full of ;non-user friendliness' type of interface. I have to say that developers are marvellous!

After installing Ubuntu 8.10 (which is really straight forward), I have to upgrade the OS, just like in Windows. I was really surprised that it could detect wi-fi instantly without me installing the driver! That is marvellous! Last time I was strulling to install my wi-fi driver. With 8.10, surfing the internet is easy.

I have managed to install msn, icq,qq and yahoo on the 8.10 but installing skype is a different thing. I went to skype.com to download the software but the internet connection was down. I don't understand why is it down. Perhaps Telekom Malaysia is still trying to determined whether the undersea submarine cable which links Europe to Asia is fixed. Right now, I could not finish downloading skype for linux because of that problem. Oh well, what to do?

I do welcome any suggestions to install skype on Ubuntu 8.10. Thanks

Open synaptic package manager, search skype there and download it. You won't see a synaptic entry but under the system menu you should find in the submenus an entry that says add/remove applications or something similar. That's as much as I can tell you since I moved from ubuntu to openSUSE. Hope still I was helpful
