There are a few new mobile phones to shout about:
Nokia 6303 classic- I don't think there is anything to shout about this phone. To me, it is the updated version of the popular Nokia 6300. Yes, the new phone's shape is much better in the sense that it is equipped with Flash 3 Lite and will be able to support up to 4GB of external memory. The screen remains the same at supporting up to 16M colours and it is a bit bigger than the 6300 at 2.2". Oh yes, the camera has been updated to support a 3MP fixed focus with flash and Nokia Map. Hum...Not too bad, isn't it? It comes with either in black or silver steel. Yes, steel, just like the Nokia 6300. The phone does NOT have support for 3G (surprised?). Oh well... Last but not least, it is equipped with Nokia WebKit Open Source Browser. That is a surprise!
Nokia 6700 Classic - This is a revolutionary phone. After the launch of Nokia 5800, the 6700 Classic is going to give Nokia a run for their money. It is a S40 phone, comes with GPS and Nokia Webkit Open Source browser, a 5MP auto focused digital camera with accelerometer and it is only 11mm think!!! The phone is good but video recording is not on par with Nokia N series. It can only record VGA at 15fps. It does not have Wi-Fi or a document viewer but you can watch programmes with the support of Flash 3 Light (using HSDPA at 7mbps max. ) as the phone supports GSM Quadband and Triband UTMS with Nokia maps. The specifications are good on paper though.
Nokia E63 - It is nothing new with this phone. It is actually a strip down version of the Nokia E71 which I am using now. The E63 is equipped with a 2MP Digital camera with autofocus and the whole chasis is made of plastic. It does not feel as good as the E71 though. The screen remains Quad VGA but it only supports 256k colours. No GPS is included in the specifications of the E63. Well, the thing is that, if you have the opportunity to choose between the E71 and E63, take the E71 instead.
Nokia 5800 Xpress - Yes, this is the latest S60 phone to be equipped with a 5th edition OS. Cool? You bet!!! It is one of the better touch screen phones by Nokia (They released the N800 and N810 Tablet before). Everything is alright but the Touch UI is not as smooth as the HTC Touch HD. What do you expect from Nokia? They are amateurs in Touch UI. Anyway, I have to say that the phone is of very good quality and people should get their hands on it if they have the opportunity. One thing which I don't like about the phone is that there is no QWERTY keyboard. The keyboard is similar to the Apple Iphone - virtual. Hum...I would just stick to my good old E71. I will give it a pass.
Nokia N97 - Yes, the upcoming Nokia N97 is going to be a crowd stealler. It is said to be using ARM 11 Freescale MXC300-30 cpu. Oh dear...Why would Nokia want to use such an old cpu? If I am not mistaken it will be using the same cpu as the Nokia E71!!! What on earth is Nokia doing over there? Ah, never mind.
As usual, with S60 5th edition, you do get good UI with that. Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR, TV-out, 5MP with Carl Zeiss lens and auto focus; A-GPS and comes with onboard 32GB memory; 3.5" screen which supports 16 million colours and it tilt slight just like the Sony Ericsson X1 and it is a touch screen; Wi-Fi onboard and it is 150g ( just like the N95 series). The difference here would be a sliding keyboard, just like the Sony Ericsson X1...Ah..(good concept? Just like the HTC Touch HD, perhaps?). For more details, please click here.
