Intel's 48 cores on a single cpu

I'm sure that you have heard about Intel's aim of putting more cores in a cpu, saved for the current "Dunnington" chipset. What is more important is that Intel has released their dream of stuffing 48 cores onto a single cpu! Do you think that it is a possibility?
