Sony Xperia J - A Simple Review
The Xperia J on the other hand is a beautiful mobile phone. The whole chasis is slightly curvy which is similar to the Xperia Arc. While the specifications of the device itself is not too spectacular, the mobile phone is quite value for money. First of all, the mobile device has a 4" capacitive screen which is coated with Corning's Gorilla Glass. Secondly, it is equipped with a 5MP autofocus digital camera at the back with a VGA camera at the front for video calling. The heart of the device is powered by a single core 1Ghz cpu from Qualcomm. It has GPS, bluetooth and many other 2012 mobile phone specification apart from the noticeable lack of NFC. I don't really expect Sony to include NFC for a mobile device to cost around £170 SIM Free which you can obtain from carphonewarehouse and phones4u.
If one were to have a look at the content of the box, he/she will definitely be disappointed. This is quite true as I was disappointed that Sony did not include a headset! The box only came with the mobile device, a battery, three back covers (black/white and pink) and a charger. It also came with some basic instructions but that is all.
Certainly one will notice that the phone is quite light even with the battery fitted. This will be quite handy for someone who does not want to hold on to a brick like the Nokia E90 (It is still one of my favourite phones) as it weights in at a mere 124g. Sony has done well over at the hardware department especially it comes with a big 1500mAh battery!
While I don't have any problems with the hardware department, the software department of the Xperia J is another matter. I have one major issue with the Xperia J which is the sheer sluggishness while trying to execute a command by pressing on the screen. I'm surprised at the performance of the Xperia J which the device came pre-installed with Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.4) which is pretty slow.
Apart from the sluggishness while operating the mobile device, there is a limitation on how many programmes can a user install on the Xperia J due to the 2GB limitation on the OS itself. It will useful if someone could overcome that limitation by rooting the Xperia J and then install a custom ROM to bypass the limitation. Unless the user is technologically savvy, it will be quite a challenge for him/her to do the above.
Overall, if you are looking for a simple smartphone, the Xperia J will be for you. However, if you are an avid smartphone user, you might be disappointed with the menu speed especially with the constant lag while trying to execute a command. On the other hand, you might want to try out the Nokia Lumia 800 instead for £150 SIM Free which I will conduct a simple review very soon.
Update:
02/02/2013 - Personally, I am still disappointed as there is no updates to the Android OS. I feel that Sony should be able to provide a better solution to its software development as the menu does not feel smooth as compared to a Samsung Galaxy Ace II. What a shame!

Sony Ericsson Satio
The Satio was delayed for a few months (God knows the reason why) but it is now been made available through the Vodafone UK network as the rest of the mobile network providers in the country have either recalled the unit due to software issues or they are putting on a wait and see attitude.
To me, I had the opportunity to have a go at the Satio. Please be informed that Vodafone UK no longer allows customers to return their mobile phones within 14 days of taking out their contracts in one of their Vodafone stores. However, if you have made a purchase online, you will have 7 days to return the phone if you are not happy with it as it is a requirement of the distance selling legislation in the UK.
The Sony Ericsson Satio is not to be missed. You get a 3.5" resistive screen with button feedback through the mighty Symbian OS 9.3 release 5. It is the fifth edition of the Symbian OS which powers the very first touch screen from Nokia - The Nokia 5800. Suprisingly, the Satio is made by Sony Ericsson but the OS is made by Nokia! Wow, that is a first from Sony Ericsson!
I'm sure that you are well verse with the capabilities of the Satio. It has a 12.1MP digital camera and it allows video recording at 30fps. HD recording is not possible but nontheless, the richness of the screen will blow you away.
It has bluetooth, microSD slot, mp3 player, a video conferencing camera among other functions for consumers to look up to. The mobile phone looks like your typical digital camera but it has a radio chip inside. It is pretty amazing considering the fact that it supports quadband GSM with dualband UTMS (900/2100). The best part of the mobile phone is that its core is powered by the same cpu which powers the Iphone 3GS - the ARM Cortex A8 600 MHz with PowerVR SGX graphics!!!
It has the usual 7.2Mbps data downlink with 2Mbps data uplink and it comes with A-GPS. It also has an FM transmitter for you guys who likes to listen to the radio.
However, irrespective of the marvellous paper specification, it is high time for a review of the stability and user friendliness of the Satio. I have to say that I have no problems while playing with the Vodafone branded Satio. The software did not hang as much as I was told when I read on the Vodafone forum. Contrary to popular believe, I do think that the camera on the Satio is the selling point of the mobile phone. Couple with a 3.5" screen, it is unbeatable in many aspect but it has its flaws.
There are many disadvantages when you are using the Satio. One of them would be the unavability of consumers to double click on any *.sis file to install it onto the Satio. I think Sony Ericssion (SE) should make a point in making sure that installation of any applications will be seemless, just like Nokia.
The second flaw of the phone will be its SAR. The SAR is calculated at 1.58g/watt. Wow...It is really high compared to many modern mobile phones. Even the new Nokia E72 is only coming in at 1.3g/watt.
The third flaw of the phone should be with its customised OS. I hope that Nokia will work hand in hand with SE to ensure that consumers will the Satio will not lose out with the inability to connect to existing network data if wi-fi is not available. That is pretty crucial, I believe.
Apart from the above, the Satio is quite a nice piece of work! I'm sure that consumers will find it very useful and it is a new model from SE!

Sony Ericsson G502
On each and every inch of the phone is made up of plastic. Some people might be put off by the way how the keyboard was being designed but yet, it is a relatively good mobile phone to use.
It has bluetooth, a mono speaker, a 2.0MP digital camera (it does not support autofocus though), an mp3 player, PIM, push e-mail and it has a slot for M2 cards.
At first glance, the G502 is light weight in nature. I'm sure that Sony Ericsson has done well on this part. It is kind to a person's pocket too! The best of all is that one can make free skype to skype calls if they are locked to the 3 UK network. This is just brilliant, don't you think so?
I have to say that the G502 is pretty good to use. The battery do last for quite a while as compared to my Nokia 5800. However, I've been using the Nokia 5800 for some time now and so I could not complain much about it. If I'm on 3.5G all the time on my Nokia 5800 (skype on standby 24/7), the Nokia 5800 will have to be recharged over night. That is the problem.
Oh well, way to go Sony Ericsson!

Sony Ericsson Idou
I just can't wait for SE to launch the Sony Ericsson Idou... It is going to be in another name though when they launch the 12.1MP mega phone with A-GPS and 3G support. The shape is similar to the Iphone but it is more of a square in shape. It will be a hot item for this year to purchase!
Too bad as I was hoping for something like the Nokia E71 from Sony Ericsson but I don't think it is going to be released anytime soon. Even the latest Nokia E75 is more like a slider with E51 in front. Oh well, we will see about it then.
Update: 30/05/2009 - It is official! The Sony Ericsson Idou is actually called 'Satio'. The question is when is SE going to release the magnificient phone?

Sony Ericsson W910i
When it comes to the W910i, I am not sure about it though. The handset is still priced in the region of £180 (O2 and Vodafone) and it is locked. I have read through many forums and it seems that the firmware is not that brilliant though. I really hope that the W910i which I am going to have a look will be alright. It is really hard to tell but it is all down to luck, I guess.
The W910i is sleek and it comes with three colours (red, black and havana gold). It is equipped with a 2MP ditial camera without autofocus! You can only record video at 15fps (far away from the 30fps from my Nokia E90). It supports GSM quad band and UTMS 2100. What I like about this phone is that it is light (86g). It supports 256k colours on a 2.4inch 240x320 screen. Well, it is not too bad but the FOMA SH905i is much much better but it is only being sold in Japan. You can buy one from ebay but you do run the risk of a malfunction unit if you do not know how to unlock the FOMA SH905i. The W910i supports HSDPA which is around 3.5G if your mobile provider supports. That is good, actually. Anyway, good luck!
To me, I think the SE W910i is quite a piece to buy since the price have dropped tremendously. Initially it was priced around £250 and only it is available on PAYT at around £180! Good enough!!!
