WiMAX in Malaysia

Reading through the news I came to know that one company in Malaysia has been commissioned to introduce WiMAX in Malaysia in the future. In fact, the said company has been doing a lot of research within Malaysia and will soon roll out the first WiMAX in Malaysia. Oh yes! Malaysia Boleh! Wait...What about 3G?

Many people seem to have forgotten the not so long ago news about 3G? What is going on with 3G? Is it working out well in Malaysia? Is it feasible to roll out in Malaysia? What happened to it then? Where has it gone? Are we prepared for WiMAX?

If I am not mistaken, when we were talking about 3G, Malaysia was really keen in rolling out 3G aggressively especially Maxis and Celcom. My question is: What is the result after five years of rolling out 3G service then?

People are not too keen in using 3G service because it is expensive when using the service. What they need to do is to ensure that the price of using 3G service should not be too far away from people who are using voice service. What do you think then?

Coming back to WiMAX, I do think that the service will be accept in open arms provided they maintain the price as HotSpots or Wireless LAN. Well, you do not need to pay for the service using Wireless LAN so long as you are attached to a wireless router. There are many wireless connections around but one thing remain unsolved: The range of wireless connection.

As we know that it all started off with 802.11a and then went on to 'b' followed by 'g'. Now we have 'n' as the draft 1.1 has been accept by FCC. 'n' should increase the range of the current wireless connection 'g' by more than ten percent. Wow! That is good. What about WiMAX then? We will soon see about it then.

Personally I will wait until the final version of WiMAX before using the service. It is just like draft n. Now, we have 'n', so...Just have patience and wait then.

What do you think then?
