Tesco + Co-op = Success?

I don't get it! I was so confused by the fact that Co-op was willing to sell one of its property in Slough to Tesco! I don't get it! From what I know, Co-op will never sell any of its property to any rival trading partners in order for them to take over its business empire. What is going on?

Well, one thing that I know of is that the action has triggered an alarm bell for the Competition Commission (hereinafter CC)in the UK and they are filing a request for Tesco to send information and documents to the CC for inspection. I believe the main reason was to ensure that there was no intimidation or any agreements which would breach any anti-competition laws.

From my research, it seems to me that the agreement between Tesco and Co-op was actually a merger so we will see what the CC would come up to under the Enterprise Act 2002.

I just could not believe my eyes that Co-op is willing to give up its position to Tesco. No doubt that Co-op might be in the water but there is a chance that they will survive. What they need to do is to reorganise. They need new blood who is willing to take risk. It has been far too long that those people sitting high up in comfortable shoes. It is time for them to take some drastic action.
