Before I continue, I would like to introduce those two beautiful phones to you. I am sure that you all have known about the Nokia E71 and the Blackberry 9000 Bold. The Nokia E71 is available either on contract or pay as you go. If you think you do not need a pay as you go, you could buy sim free which is around £300 pounds. It is the same on the Blackberry 9000 Bold but it is currently only made available through Vodafone in the UK unless you are thinking of going to carphonewarehouse to buy one for yourself. The Blackberry 9000 Bold would cost you around £350 sim free. Oh well, enough about the prices.
Nokia E71 Specification:
The E71 has all the qualities which you would might expect from Nokia as it is considered to be a high end business phone. It has a decent 3.2MP autofocus digital camera with video capabilities; bluetooth; 2.4" 16M colour screen; A-GPS; a decent keyboard; light and robus; good size phone suitable for bigger fingers customer and very long standby time. It does have a removable memory slot and the RF is good! You can also leave the phone on standby power and the battery will last. It supports quadband GSM (850/900/1800/1900) and dual band UTMS (3G). I like the phone very much in the sense that I do not need to recharge the phone everyday (as what I am doing for my E90 on 3G mode). It will serve everyone's purpose to have such a magnificient phone. Since it is running on the latest Symbian OS, you can be assured that the OS is durable and stable, unlike the Windows Mobile 6.1.
Blackberry 9000 Bold
The Blackberry 9000 Bold, along with the Nokia E71, is meant to serve the business people. It has a decent keyboard which is similar to the Nokia E71 and it has bluetooth, 2.0MP autoocus digital camer, memory card slot, 2.3" 16M colour screen; a decent CPU and running on the Blackberry OS. What is an advantage of the Blackberry 9000 Bold over the Nokia E71 is that it is running on the Blackberry OS. Some people prefer the Blackberry OS rather than the Symbian OS. Personally, I do think that the Symbian OS is much better because it allows the customer to install many applications on the phone! Look at the Blackberry OS! I don't think anyone can install as many applications which the Symbian OS can do. In the end, it is a personal choice.
Evaluation of the Nokia E71 and Blackberry 9000 Bold
Remember from the beginning I have mentioned that it is not wise to buy the Nokia E71 or the Blackberry 9000 Bold? Well, here is one reason why ; SAR values on both phones are really high but not more than 2.0W/kg which is the requirement for Nokia or Blackberry to acquire CF. The Blackberry 9000, similar to the Curve, has one of the highest value of SAR for RIM. The SAR value of the 9000 Bold is to hold around 1.6W/kg. Otherwise FCC would not have approved of the machine to be sold in Canada. The Nokia E71's SAR value is 1.33W/kg or 1.53W/kg depending on the different market. To me, it is a far cry of 0.6W/kg on the Nokia E90. Oh dear, what is Nokia doing? I know that the battery life on the E71 is excellent. Does it have anything to do with SAR values? Does it mean that if a mobile phone's SAR value is high, a customer would expect the phone to have a good standby power? I don't know how is it done but I don't recommend people to make a purchase for the Nokia E71 or the Blackberry 9000 Bold. If you must buy one of them, use a headset or a bluetooth device so that you are not constantly putting your ear too close to the phone.

i dont think sar has anything to do with the battery power, i say this because i have one simple samsung and a gigabyte pda which both have sar values around 0.20-0.26, as officially claimed, but the pda battery hardly lasts for a day while the samsung goes at least a week on stand-by.
i actually dont believe much to the low sar values declared by the mobile companies. i have also a nokia e65 which is to have a sar around 0.70 but i have read an article that an independent testing company in australia claims the same nokia e65 to have sar more than 3.
do you really believe they wouldnt let these phones, nokia or blackberry not to be sold in the market just cos they have high sar values? i think nokia and blackberry would find a way to make certificates to keep their sar lower than it has to be maximum, while the real sar is way higher.
I agree with what you say here, I've wrote to Nokia regarding this issue.
The S.A.R. high values problem is from the product line that has the antenna next in the back oh the ear, the E90 platform is with antenna next to the microphone in the lower part of the phone this is why the E90 SAR value is more OK than E71.
I've owned different phones and for me is always I'm interested in this value to be as low as possible.
Nokia has 9300 model that had one of the smallest SAR values in the industry 0.07 compared with 1,33 from E71 is a huge difference and for one who speak in avreage more than 1 hour a day this issue is an important one.
Thanks for the review!
Yours truly,
R
I have a nokia 9300 and the difference with my old phone (nokia n95) is extraordinary. I used to have multiple headaches and now with the 9300 i almost have no headached at all. I surelly recomend sar below of 0.30. I recently bought a samsung f710 but the functionallity of nokia 9300 is unresistable. therefore low sar = nokia 9300. until nokia brings a better deal.
I think what is important here is not to use too much of the mobile phone. If you want to use it to talk often, use the in build handsfree or a bluetooth headset. What do you think?
Hi,
I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
