Happy Customer

One of my colleagues came to me and asked me whether I can lend him a hand in dealing with his laptop. I said 'bring it on'. In fact, I am really interested in lending my hands to help anyone whom I can help particularily in areas like computers as they are not quite into it. I don't blame them because they are pre-occupied with their own work.

As for me, I am also busy but I do have a long history of fixing computers, either in hardware or software so I don't mind the challenege. I think I can put the technical assistants to shame! Why? Res Ipsa Loquitor!!!

His problem?

His Asus laptop is a Tablet PC and came with Windows XP Tablet edition. It is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo T2300 with 1GB of Memory. Onboard graphics are powered by an Intel GMA X3100 with DVVM (up to 512MB) and only featured with a 80GB SATA Hard Drive. Surely it has a finger print device (for extra security) and it is light (weight: less than 1.3kgs). However, I don't really like the screen size as it is only 13.3". Never mind about that. His complains?

(1) Can't read messages in his hotmail account while using Internet Explorer;

(2) Can't access youtube using Internet Explorer; and

(3) Can't run bbc Iplayer (it is only for those people who are living in the UK).

Well, after going through his laptop, I told him that I would require 30 minutes of his time to sort out the problem. Once he was gone, I fire up Windows update. It took around 5 minutes to download Windows XP3 and then I started installing it. The installation took around 20 minutes. After that, I fire up Internet Explorer 8 RC1 installation and install it after it has finished downloading.

Guess what? When he came back, he was skeptical about me solving the three problems which I have mentioned earlier. I told him that there is nothing which a person cannot do. What is important is that we need to have patience with the computer and go from there.

I don't think the IT support official should ignore his request. He does not want to go to the individual. I don't know why but maybe he thinks that the individual will not help him. Having said that, I told him to access his hotmail account and also the youtube and also using the bbc iplayer.

Guess what? He was really happy that he could access his e-mails again; access youtube and also access bbc iplayer! That was what he wanted...Hum...A happy customer... What's for me? Satisfied because I have the opportunity to help someone with my abilities. Excellent. He left my room with a song of praise for me. It's good, isn't it?
