300,000 Malaysians Migrating Overseas

I was really sad to have found out that more and more Malaysians are migrating overseas. If you were to look at current figures between March 2008 and August 2009, more than 300,000 Malaysians have migrated to other countries with no intention to return home to Malaysia for good. What does it tell us then?

The alarm bell should ring when the official figure shows that more than 3,800 Malaysians have given up on their Malaysian citizenship this year as compared to only 2,000 last year. This is a phenomenon which is not surprising at all. Those people who chose to remain overseas were mainly professionals. The main reason for them to stay away from Malaysia is that they are getting better paid with better respect for a person as an individual and the best of all, the level of education which only countries apart from Malaysia can offer, such as freedom of speech and the respect for human rights are properly followed.

With many Malaysians leaving the country for good, the government is stepping up its campaign to attract Malaysians from abroad to return to Malaysia. I don't think that this is possible. One of the many factors is that Malaysians who are living outside of Malaysia are enjoying their live to the maximum without much discrimination. As I was being informed, someone told me that he feels that it is better to be a second class citizen elsewhere than to be discriminated widely in Malaysia.

I can't foresee the future but the ministry and the government should do something to ensure that Malaysia is for Malaysians and not just for a few groups of people.

To Bad, To Sad! Malaysians migrate for a good reason as they've found their motherland having nothing to offer! Period.

What we could do is actually to encourage the government to act faster in improving the current situation in the country. The question is whether they are up to the challenge...
