Malaysian Taxi Drivers

I am appealing to the government to draw up a guideline or even legislate the way how local taxi drivers behave when they attend to tourists! I am referring to this article about the problems faced by the many tourists to the city. It is so unfortunate when the country itself is trying to attract more tourists but ended up with complaints about the Malaysian taxi drivers.

Is that not a solution to all of that? Where is the enforcements when we needed? It is insufficient for taxi drivers to take advantage of tourists by charging them more on a single trip by either

(1) not using the meter onboard the taxi;
(2) using a longer route to get to the destination requested by the passenger;
(3) charge extra by asking passengers to pay RM1 or RM2 more on top of the amount displayed on the meter; or
(4) All of the above.

I think it is high time for the government to stop bickering about how they manage to run the country well and solve the current situation. The taxi drivers are not happy because they could not increase their taxi fare. I think the taxi drivers should consider restrain themselves and not to ask for too much. The government, on the other hand, should enforce effectively when there are such incidents reported to the ministry and not just to sweap under the carpet and instead focusing in dealing with a transsexual who is trying so hard to live her life peacefully without the fear of being stone to death when she comes back to Malaysia!!!

I don't understand the situation over here. The Malaysian government should stand behind its citizens but I'm afraid in this case, it is not... Sad...
