McAfee Anyone? No, thank you.

I have received a message from HSBC stating that they are giving out free McAfee antivirus for their customers for a period of 12 months. I was indeed very happy because I have a free antivirus programme to use! Moreoever, it is McAfee and not some cheap-and-not-good-for-nothing antivirus programmes out there.

After downloading the software and installation of the programme later, I was asked to update the virus definition file. It is a normal procedure which I was happy to do so.

The programme ran fine until two reboots later...

Windows was playing up at one time and the screen was frozen. At the moment, I panicked as I was in the middle of writing an e-mail. I have written quite a long e-mail and if I were to reboot the laptop, I will lose all the information which I have typed. I did try to look for the culprit and it was McAfee. It was stated that the programme was not responding and will be shut down.

I then tried to shut down McAfee and guess what it did to all my internet browsing? It has shut all my windows including my e-mails. I was so unhappy as I have to type all over again! In addition to that, I had to do a few more reboots until I could not take it anymore. It is damaging the hard drive as I had to press on the on/off button to switch off the laptop.

In the end, I have decided to uninstall the antivirus and use my normal antivirus programme instead. The good news is that my laptop did not encounter any freeze anymore.

I will not be able to McAfee anymore as it crashed my laptop many times. Adios.

It's unfortunate that McAfee is not doing its job though. Pity...
