Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac

I am deeply affected by the constant crashing of Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac. This is becoming some sort of annoyance especially when you are trying to do some work via Microsoft Word and it crashed half way through your project or your intention to do some typing. It will be a nuisance if the software were to crash not just once but ten times in a day.

When Word within Office 2011 crashed the first two times, I have been quite resilient and just play cool about it. However, when it crashed for the third time, I have started to look for answers on the internet. Indeed I have found several websites including on Apple's forum which states that it is an ongoing problem and Microsoft is still trying to resolve the particular problem. Such crashes appeared to affect other Office 2011 suits too. You could refer here for more information.

Disgruntled users have taken their problems to Microsoft. In reply to the problem of crashing on Mac machines, Microsoft seemed to have acknowledged the problem but there is no quick fix for it. They have provided some backdoor fix but it is not a solution. You could have a look at the solution herehereherehere and here.

To be fair, Microsoft asked users to remove Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac and then reinstall the same programme. In addition to that process, it is also important for users to install the necessary updates to the programme itself.

Personally, the problem seemed to have resolved by uninstalling Microsoft Office 2011 and then reinstall three times before installing the updates to the programme. It will also be a good idea to always save your work whenever you want to do so just in case the programme crash again.

The moral of the story is that it will always be a good idea to use cmd + s as and when you want to ensure that you have saved your work to avoid any disappointment.

Alternatively, if you think that Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac is just too annoying to you, you may want to choose Apache's OpenOffice or LibraOffice which is a full suite. Best of all, they are free!

Update I:
Eureka! I have found the solution but not many people will like it though. When you have reinstalled Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac, do not perform any updates and you should be alright. It seems that the updates from Microsoft just made the programme more unstable!

Update II (13 February 2013):
It seems that Microsoft has released a Service Pack 3 for the Office Suite 2011 for Mac. I have not encounter any crashes so far after using Word for more than one hour after the update.
