Toshiba TG01

If you are still wondering whether the Asus P565 which I have written earlier is still the crown when it comes to its cpu power, you are in the right place. The Asus P565 no longer the crown when it comes to cpu power. Make way Asus, here comes Toshiba TG01!!!

The more I look at the Toshiba TG01, the more that I think it resembles the Apple iphone. I don't know but you can have a look here. I think the mechanics and the design of the phone itself is superb! It is also very slim at 9.9mm and it packs a 4.1" WVGA screen!!!The firepower comes from Qualcomm's Snapdragon platform, the QSD2850 chipset and it runs at 1ghz!!! Just imagine the last time we heard a great cpu running at 800mhz but now, 1ghz? That is just great! No later, we might see a 1.6ghz mobile smartphone! It is just a matter of time.

The Toshiba TG01 supports 3G including HSDPA, Quadband GSM and A-GPS, not mentioning that it has bluetooth and runs on the Windows Mobile 6.1. You can see a comparison of the Toshiba TG01 against the mighty Apple iphone. I think Toshiba's TG01 have potential to beat the iphone's UI. Bear in mind that Steve Jobbs is not going to let other smartphones ruin his plan. The Mac OS X on the Apple Iphone is still unbeatable even though we have HTC's advanced TouchFlo 3D on the HTC TouchDiamond for example. It is not quite as sensitive as the Apple Iphone's UI. Oh yes, Nokia is trying on with their Nokia 5800 XpressMusic (touchscreen UI). It is not as good as the Advanced TouchFlo 3D found in many of the new HTC devices. I feel that with touch screen technology, Apple's OS X on the Iphone is still a killer...

HTC Dream

Yes, the HTC Dream is out! As you know, a while back, T-mobile relesed the much anticipated G1 device. It is actually an Andriod OS and it was made by HTC. We also know that the upcoming G2 will not be manufactured by HTC. I think that is why HTC is taking the opportunity to widen the scope of the G1 while the market is hot! The specifications of the HTC Dream is the same as the T-mobile G1 device. Nothing has changed! I think HTC is giving Asian markets especially Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand a run for their money. Moreoever, HTC is based in Taiwan. I am not surprised if the HTC Dream will be widely accepted by many people.

There is an advantage about buying the HTC Dream. As you know, the T-Mobile G1 has a customised UI which is from T-Mobile (Surprised surprised). If you are one of those people like me who does not like customised firmware, why not get the HTC Dream then? You will not be tied up with a two years contract anyway! Think about it. It is more worth while to go out and buy the HTC Dream than to go on a contract with T Mobile. By the time you are done with the cotract, you would have paid double or triple the amount which you would have paid for the HTC Dream. Have a look here.

Asus P565

You might have not noticed but Asus have come up with new smartphones to show off. I was in Mid Valley the other day and they were having a promotion for those people who are purchasing Asus products which includes Eee PC. I am here not to mention about their famous Eee PC but rather, their smartphones line up.

Asus have released many smartphones in the past but not as popular as HTC. Despite of not being as popular as HTC, Asus have release their best smartphone yet - The Asus P565. Being a smartphone user, I have meddle with many gadgets before including the very latest HTC Touch HD which I don't really like. The main reason was due to the fact that I have to reboot the smartphone many times as it has hang! It remaind me of the very first Nokia E71 which I had. Well, not all Nokia E71 will be the same. It is just that particular model. Anyway, coming back to Asus P565.

The Asus P565 is a little marvell. Boosted by the quick Marvell 800mhz cpu which runs on triband GSM and UTMS 2100, the machine can 'fly'!!! That is just an expression.I was blown away by the speedy menu system and the smoothness when I watch some demo mp4 movies. Boy the movie was smooth and I can't find any pixel on the screen itself when the movie was running! The screen size is as big as the Nokia N95 8GB. At 2.8" diagonally, it is capable of producing a resolution at 480x640 (VGA?). One of the many highlights will be A-GPS enabled and it is equipped with 128MB of ROM. You can install more memory by using extenal microSD card. Well, microSD cards are quite cheap now days so make full use of it. Just make a trip to Lowyat and you will know the reason why.

On the whole, Windows Mobile 6.1 really shines. I love it! Oh yes, talktime and standby time is on the average. You have to understand that the cpu is running at 800ghz so the battery will get some beating too. If you continuously use the P565 for GPS function and wi-fi including listening to mp3, you will be looking at recharging the unit at the end of the day. With a 3.0MP Digital camera with autofocus which records video at the maximum rate of 24fps at QCIF format, you can replace your one time mobile phone! The P565 is also HSDPA enabled and pretty light weight at 120g! One thing for sure, it is only catchy for those people who likes black colour only. It does not have any other colours like Sony mobile phones. Have fun!!!

HTC Touch 3G

Yes, I have seend the HTC Touch 3G and had a go with it for a week. It is user friendly and the menu is much better compared to the HTC Touch Dual. The speed of the menu is much faster and no more of the 'freezing' problem faced by the HTC Touch.

I have to stress out that HTC Touch 3G is one of the best PDA/ phone in the market. I don't think other manufacturers are capable of competing with HTC. Well, for a small segment, Samsung might be a very good contender of HTC but highly unlikely. I have to say that not even HP can compete with HTC in the PDA/phone segment. The Touch 3G will set you up with wi-fi, bluetooth version 2.0, 3G, 256k screen equipped with TouchFlo system and GSM quadband. You can also add more memory using the external slot.

Actually, the Touch 3G is a very good contender of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. Think about it.

PDAs anyone?

When you mention PDAs, people will associate it with PDAs+phone. That is the trend now. When you mention PDAs, people will generally remember HTC and not HP. Why? HTC is a better company in making PDAs, right? Wrong. One of the main reasons why people will remember HTC is because mobile phones killed PDAs. No...Not only did mobile phones killed PDAs, it also killed digital camera and mp3 players. I can explain this.

First of all, with PDAs, you can do your normal PIM but you can't make any calls. With a mobile phone, you can do most of the PIM which you can do it on a PDA but with added feature, you can make calls with it!

Secondly, with a digital camera, you can take nice pictures and store it inside a memory card. With mobile phones like LG and Samsung, they are out to produce mobile phones which are capable of taking pictures at 8MP! 8MP! That is no joke about it. It has certainly created an impact on the sales of digital camera because not only you can take nice pictures on a 8MP mobile phone like the Samsung Innov8, you can also make use of its mobile phone functions and also do PIM at the same time.

Thirdly, with mp3 players, all you can do is to listen to mp3s and or watch video clips on the player. With modern mobile phones, you can playback mp3s and watch mp4s besides using it as a normal mobile phone. You can also use it to take pictures and guide you using inbuild GPS technology. Well, what can I say about it?

Mobile phones like the good old Nokia E71, E90 and most of the N series, it is more like everything in one.

HTC Baby!!!

Recently, there has been lots of excitment in the HTC camp. What I am more excited about is the availability of HTC Touch 3G and the best of all, HTC Touch HD! According to gsmarena, I think most people will go for the HTC Touch HD as it has a decent 5MP digital camera with the usual A-GPS, bluetooth and a 3.8" touch screen? Wow! That is marvellous! I think HTC has a chance of reviving the slump lately.

Well, I don't think there is any slump for HTC. Look at their track record. Their phones have been used by O2 (from Orbit to Orbit 2 and also Stellar) for many years now. With the good track record, I think it is important that both HTC and O2 will keep their relationship on a good accord. I think HTC is really good because with the availability of HTC Diamond, it is a market stealer. Look at i-mate and eten. I think both companies are behing HTC's curtain right now. I don't think they are releasing any newer models right now on their own.

From what I have gathered, the HTC HD will also continue the HTC tradition of utilising Windows Mobile 6.1. Well, with TouchFLO 3D, I think it is going to attract a lot of customers. I remember when I had an O2 Orbit. It was running on Windows Mobile 5 and then I have managed to upgrade the firmware to 6.0 Professional with a 'cooked' ROM to support TouchFLO. That was really cool, ok? I love it very much! It was superb! Right now, it is a pity because I am more of a Symian OS man now. I feel that Symbian OS is very user friendly and seldom crash as opposed to Windows Mobile. Oh, just think about Windows OS on PCs and Notebooks then.

HTC P3300

I am curious when would HTC release their updated OS i.e. Windows Mobile 6 for HTC P3300. I am curious because there are a few websites offering WM6 for HTC P3300. Well, HTC P3300 is similiar PDA to the XDA Orbit for your information. On the HTC Asia website, it was stated that they will release the new operating system on 13 July 2007. We will have to wait and see then. After all, the new software should be much better in the sense that it will make the PDA/phone runs much faster and more stable.

Well, I do have WM6 on my XDA Orbit now and it is running perfectly.
