Malays urged to emulate Chinese clan system
TANGKAK: Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman wants Malays in the state to emulate the Chinese clan association system in looking after members from the same family lineage.
Speaking at a Hari Raya gathering of some 700 descendants of the late Muhammad Saat Abbas in Sungai Mati near here, he said the Chinese formed associations based on clans and helped one another, especially in business ventures.
“I am very happy to see the gathering of the descendants of the late Muhammad Saat, who opened up an area near Parit Bunga in 1820.
“We now have more than 700 of his descendants living all over the country,” he said Saturday.
Abdul Ghani said the gathering of one's family clan would also foster closer relations.
He said besides helping one another in business ventures and educational needs, they could also help in resolving social-related problems faced by any family member.
Since Muhammad Saat died in 1880, there had been nine generations of his descendants, mostly living in the Ledang parliamentary area, said a family member, Datuk Zainal Abidin Zin.
Zainal, who was a former Johor state assembly speaker, said the group would be encouraged to take up small-scale industrial businesses to improve their livelihoods.
“One has to be financially strong before one can help the others and I will try to help any member who wants to venture into business,” he added.

This Fool is absolutely ignorant! The Chinese Clans don't practise handicap help, they just make it a point to meet up for gatherings & functions to socialize & know their Clan better.
However this fool wants Malays to get into Clans to further grow the handicap system of Bumiputera Rights, Aid & Privileges. This Fool has always been fanatical & Pro Malays, he's a racist. Rumours has it that PM wants him to step down, i fully support his removal.
I was having the impression that he wants the Malays to copy what the Chinese have been doing to improve themselves. What do you think?
He is known to be Pro-Malay, he never means well when it comes to the non malays. This man has always been fanatical & i look forward to his removal from Government.
