Wee Meng Chee

I have been a follower of Wee Meng Chee or "Namewee" on Youtube. He was originally from Muar and he came back after finishing his studies in Taiwan. I've started looking up on his "creativity" after he sparked an outrage with a cover version of Malaysia's National Song - Negaraku. His made that short video clip back in 2007 when he was still in Taiwan and named it "Negarakuku" which means "My country which has gone crazy".

Following his short video clip on Youtube, his family came out to apologies to the public and same goes to Wee Meng Chee. In fact, "Namewee" was actually trying to highlight the problems being faced by many Malaysians which he accused the government of putting a blind eye on the matter. A good example will be the small "kopi" money which vehicle owners would have to pay instead of getting a hefty fine from the traffic police and so on.

Fast forward two years after that, he made a few short video clips highlighting the problem with the National Utility Board or Tenaga National. He made the video clip when his place in Muar experienced frequent blackouts but not the National Utility Board. He questioned the productivity of those officers involved in solving the frequent blackouts in his area but it falls onto deaf years. That was what prompt him to make the video clip.

Recently, he made another video clip which highlighted the cruelty of those two head of school in Malaysia for being racism. The matter of those two head of school was reported in the newspapers but no action was taken against those two. I do believe that "Namewee" was really sick and tired of it so he made a short video clip condeming those two head of school for their bad behaviour since the government has taken no action.

Not suprisingly "Namewee" was criticised by the government for his action in trying to stir up racial discrimination. I am not surprised because they can shutdown "Namewee" anytime they want as they are still in power.

My point here is - Where is the love? Where is justice? I am trying to be neutral and fair over here. Just hear me out.

Indonesians...Please stay Calm

I don't really understand the fuss about the problems with Indonesians. I have read all about it and I am wondering whether there is any truth in pursuing the matter after the apology by the Discovery Channel officials. I have one thing to say - please calm down Indonesians! We are band of brothers and it will be in your detriment to cause a commotion here!!! Just stay calm...

Tun Mahathir

think it is a good thing for Dr. Mahathir to challenge BN to regain the seats which were being won by the PKR. It is easy enough for him to set out a challenge for BN. The hardest part will be whether BN is willing to take up the challenge. I think Dr. M has seen enough of bickering and back stabbing among BN components and he would wish that he is back in his 30s where he could do some wonders. Unfortunately, he is not. He is well into his 80s and things have changed.

If he is still strong, it is irrelevant as the politics have changed. I do have lots of respect for Dr. Mahathir but I think the current BN is in no command of the country’s politics. Look at UMNO themselves – They looked more like a bunch of people who are trying to be ‘cool’ during every parliamentary session and I think it is just wrong. If you really pay attention, you will find that the country’s political success is in turmoil. This is due to the fact that there is no ‘leader’ to lead the country into prosperity at the moment.

We do have a prime minister and guess what? He is not the elected prime minister anyway! Just because BN won the reduced majority seats in the previous election, it does not mean that Najib is the clear winner.

With due respect, he has started to take some actions like education and health reforms but such reforms will take time and effort. I am sceptical about the success in those two reforms. It comes a time where UMNO is allegedly to be involved in a ‘secret’ talk with certain leaders of PAS. A talk with the opposition party is not unheard of but what does it mean? It will be wise if there is only one party and one party to rule all, just like in Cambodia?

Chua Jui Meng

I have great respect for Chua Jui Meng. He is one of the best MCA deputy leaders in the entire MCA history. He has made a few good changes but he did not manage to make it to the top. I can sense that he is just fed up of being the underdog and not being able to implement significant changes within the party. No doubt that MCA is trying to rectify its problems but there is no suggestions that the party will recover from the internal inferno which has been building up for many months.

It is good that he has decided to join PKR. I really hope that with his presence, he will be able to make some significant changes to create more jobs and also to ease the politicial issues in the country right now. The gap between the rich and the poor are widening. If there is no government intervention, it will end up like other countries around the world where you see the gap between the rich and the poor is significant. Please, help us...

MACC

Why are MACC officials raiding opposition parties' office when they have not been raiding BN offices? This is just so unfair. I have seen how Teresa Kok work and how she runs the office. There is nothing to suggest that she or the other opposition party members misused their funds. What on earth is going on with the local MACC officers then? Are they a toy of the BN then?

Update:

18/07/2009 - Police is conducting an investigation into the death of Teoh Beng Hock. Whilst an autopy show that he died from a fall(naturally it is obvious, right?), we could not be certain if he has committed suicide, pushed or even pressured to do so. I was laughing when the MACC chief declared that they have nothing to hide. Well, there is a possibility of an inside job. Once all evidence have been destroyed, there will be nothing to seek the truth, isn't it? Clever people! Oh yes, it is good that Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein asked the officials to wrap up the investigations early as it will create more problems if they don't do so. It might give an impression to the public that MACC themselves are hiding something from the people. Even the former ACA chief was arrested on the alleged that he took bribes. Well, what can you say about it now?

Dr Mohd Khir Toyo

Remember the former Menteri Besar of Selangor Dr. Mohd Khir Toyo? He was being asked to explain how he could afford to buy a plot of land and build a bangalow as he was earning less than RM 3.5 million a year. He said, in his statement, that he obtained the loan for RM 3 million from HSBC and the monthly instalment amounted to RM 18,000. As he is a businessman, he claims that he is earning at around RM 50,000 a month so he is able to repay the loan. He even denied the fact that he bought the bangalow plots are worth RM 24 million.

Recently, he has taken steps to initiate a defamation suit against a local assemblyman to court but the fact is that until now, he still could not produce any evidence to show that he has bought the two plots for RM 3.5 million! Even Mahathir questioned the value of the property which Khir Toyo has claimed that he only spent RM 3.5 million to build it as it is a palace compared to his house. Oh, well, what can I say about it? He was also being told to answer questions into buying another property while he was the then Selangor Menteri Besar for an undisclosed sum. Oh well, what can I say then? He is in hot soup!!!

The latest development is that he was being ejected from the House of Commons for calling the House speaker a 'bias person' and refused to retract his statement. A representative member of the house calling the speaker 'bias'? Does he has to go so low to win some sympathy votes from other assemblymen? That is outrageous!!!

Liberalisation of Foreign Investment in Malaysia

I welcome the fact that the PM of Malaysia has initiated the 30% requirement for bumiputra equity when forming a company in Malaysia. However, I am appauled by the fact that he gave the order for a 50% of a company's shareholders to be bumiputras. Wow, what is going on then? It seems to me that he has done nothing good to the non-bumiputras in Malaysia at all. What can we say? It is not a true liberalisation... What a move by the PM of Malaysia. Freedom? Not really... Gordan Brown: ' Your Majesty, we have a problem...'

Frankly, I am really sad for what is happening within the walls of Westminister for the past few days. Right, we are not talking about anything else but MP's expenses row. The fact is that there are many people who are not in favour of being under Mr. Brown's leadership. Well, what can I say about that then? Certainly it is not something which anyone can bear overnight.

I believe there is nothing wrong with Mr. Brown but the problem is that he was being put under many kinds of pressure these days. First, many of his close counterpart left him one after the other and secondly, people are secretly petitioning him to be removed from the post of being a prime minister. (I think he might be subjected to the same kind of pressure which Tony Blair had when he was 'forced' to step down as PM of UK). I can see that history is repeating itself now.

Alright, Bristol is one of Labour's stronghold until yesterday. There were ten seats in that constituency and Labour only took two while four went to the Liberal Democrates while another four went to the Conservatives. I think people are just not happy with what Labour as a party doing and seek to 'punish' Labour. I feel so sorry for those hardworking people in Bristol flying the Labour flag. This is because it is not they who needs replacing but someone from Westminister!!! I just don't understand why these people are subjected to any form of punishment.

Gordan Brown, on the other hand, is so unfortunate. I think he made a mistake by abolishing the 10p tax band for the first two grand a person earns and did a U turn in supporting parents with small children. He was under more stress with the collapse of the banking system. Certainly it did not help when the Lord Chancellor had to admit that he did a mistake by bailing out the banks but I have to say that he has no choice. He has to bail out the banks. If he does not do it, the whole banking system will collapse completely and the people will be under more stress with more job cuts.

I feel that the government is trying to do the best that they could. I am sure that not many people will like the way how Mr. Brown work but we should not criticise how people conduct their governmental affairs so long as they are doing the best that they could.

The Conservatives and the Liberal Democrates are taking this opportunity to add more pressure to remove Gordan Brown. Think about it, who is more capable of running the country at this moment? Do you think the Conservatives or the Liberal Democrates can survive and pull the country out of recession and restore people's confidence at this level? I don't think so. I feel that there are certain quaters of people who are selfish and they are seeking their personal agenda at this moment.

Look, we have MPs from the Conservatives and from the Liberal Democrates under scrutiny for reimbursing more money than they could, by way of abusing their status as an MP. Both opposition parties are similarly as bad as Labour anyway! Why is a need to change the present PM then? Can anyone else do his job? I think many people will want to be in his shoes but they do not have any idea the amount of stress that he has to go through. I am not defending the poor man but it is the fact. Think twice before doing anything silly... We must not always believe what we read and see...

Penanti by election - PKR's triumph return

I have to congratulate Monsor Othman's victory in the Penanti by election. I don't see the reason for him to lose because clearly, Penanti is a stronghold of PKR and they are doing the job. BN will be foolish to place anyone to compete with PKR. Without having anyone from the BN chair to compete with PKR, it will, eventually save some BN's pride in the by election. What if BN were to lose by a bigger majority then? Clearly BN is not a fool...

RPK (update)

I don't really know where has RPK gone. No one knows where is RPK. I just don't know why he wants to go into hiding. There are two possibilities. One of which is : he is scared as he does not have sufficient to substantiate his allegations and (2) he is scared that he will be harm and he will not get a fair trial if he is going to remain in Malaysia. For all you know, he is still in Malaysia!!!

RPK again

What is the matter now? Do you think that the police does not have anything else to do than to arrest people like RPK? I think there should be a stop to what the police is trying to do. They are trying to silence RPK for trying to tarnish the current PM and his wife's name. Oh please... Only we folks do not have the 'inside' information about what is going in the government. I think to be fair, RPK has been in and out of ISA and guess what? No concrete evidence was brought against him. If they are smart enough, the matter should have been brought before an open court and not send him to Kamunting, right?

I have no doubts that there are people who are trying to speak the truth and some people are just trying to shut him out. Oh well, what can you say about this then?

Justice Denied!!!

I am quite unhappy over the fact that the Law Lords who sat on the Court of Appeal have ruled that Dr. Zambry is the rightful Perak Menteri Besar. What sort of justice are we having in Malaysia anyway?

Day of Reckoning!!!

Wow! I am so happy that the High Court ruled that Nazri is the rightful Menteri Besar of Perak! I am so happy!!! Oh well, Barisan's Menteri Besar can still appeal to the Court of Appeal anyway so we'll see about it then. Right now, I am enjoying myself. Update: 15/05/2009: Zamry is going to appeal to the Court of Appeal regarding High Court's decision of concluding that Nizar is the rightful Menteri Besar of Peark. I feel that Nazri should stay where he is. The good news is that PKR is ready to have a discussion or meeting with the PM of Malaysia. I really hope that they can solve the problem in Perak. I feel that there should be a change as Peraks has been long under Barisan Nasional and it is not benefiting the people...

Malaysian Parliament

I was asked by one of my friends to log on to youtube to watch some 'live action' of the Malaysian Parliament in session. I was pretty shocked at watching it. Do you know why? I see MPs shouting at each other all the time. Where is order in the Parliament? The shouting made me feel so small, let alone it is aired across the internet and local television. What a shame!!!

Behold Najib, our new PM for Malaysia!!!

Yes, it is confirmed that Najib will be the next Prime Minister of Malaysia! It was mentioned that the latest by tomorrow, there will be a swearing in for the new PM of Malaysia, Najib Tun Razak.

I have high hopes for him to rebuild the country. It is well known that Malaysia is in a better financial situation than many other countries in the sector. I don't really want anything to go bad just because of Najib. I really hope that the people will at least try to follow his instructions. When you have a new boss, it needs time to get used to it so...

Good luck to Najib and may Allah bless him.

Datuk Zaid Ibrahim

You know what? I don't really care who is going to run the country anymore. This is because all they would care would be for their own pocket and not the people in the country. You can ask around and see what people would say about whether Najib is going to take over or not. I don't think there will be many people who would really care about the matter.

Since independence from the British, we have been developing. In fact, the economic of the country was really good and progressing until recently. I have lost hope in reviving the economy. Look at the stimulus plan to revive the economy in the country. The question to ask is whether such stimulus package has been effectively distributed to those needy companies?

I think the country will only prosper if BN especially UMNO members stop bickering about the way how the opposition is running the country. There is no win-win solution if the party members are always fighting each other like enemies. Can they be more civilised?

Teresa Kok files suit Against Home Minister

Below is an update to the unlawful detention of Seputeh MP Teresa Kok. The article was taken from The Star Online today.

KUALA LUMPUR:MP for Seputeh Teresa Kok Suh Sim has filed a suit against Home Minister and three others for wrongful detention and false imprisonment under Internal Security Act (ISA).

Kok has named Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan, Special branch senior officer DSP E Kim Tien and the Malaysian Government as defendants.

Her lawyer, S.N.Nair filed the suit on her behalf at the High Court civil registry at 8.37am on Friday.

“The way my client was arrested and interrogated that day is not right. All her constitutional rights, to call her family and her lawyer, were denied.

“No communication was allowed, all of us were left in the dark. It is only by chance that we know about her arrest after more than two hours later,” Nair told reporters after the filing on Friday.

In the statement of claim, Kok said the defendants and or their agents had forcibly and in a dangerous manner effected her arrest at the entrance gate of her house in Jalan Awan Cina here at 11.15pm on Sept 12 last year.

She claimed that she was not given an opportunity to contact her family or lawyers despite repeated pleas.

Kok said she was not informed as to the place of detention but was taken to Wangsa Maju police station without her consent where she was kept under unlawful detention for about two and a half hours.

The next day, Kok said she was informed by DSP Kim that she was being detained under Section 73(1) of the ISA 1960.

Kok said she was continually kept under detention in a certain secret place of detention-without-trial from Sept 12 to Sept 19 last year.

She claimed that she was continually held in solitary confinement and was deprived of all her constitutional rights.

She said she had been put to severe mental anguish, pain and suffering during the period.

Among others, Kok is seeking damages for unlawful arrest, false imprisonment, pain, suffering and mental anguish.

She is also asking for other relief deemed fit by the court.

Speaking to reporters later, Kok said she decided to initiate the legal suit as her arrest was baseless.

“I am a wakil rakyat. I have official duties to carry on.

“I have waited for half a year for the police and Government to give proper explanation but they never responded to the letter of demand issued by my lawyer,” she added.

Malaysian Politics

I am in pain over what is happening in Malaysia right now especially in Perak. It seems that PKR and BN are fighting over who is going to run the State and non-stop bitchin around. That is not right. It shows that people are lack of manners and where is manners when you need one? It is rediculous to say that the Perak Assembly speaker has done something wrong by UMNO and the whole political scence in Perak and in malaysia is in a mess. The next question would be: How to solve the problem?

I don't think such problems can be solved if the leaders themselves are not paving the way to debate the matter in a more civilised way. Look at the Dewan Rakyat now days. I know that the parliament in session is being aired over the television but what else? You can see what is actually going on in the Parliament. You see that the House Speaker is taking sides although they don't want to involve themselves in it. What is going on over there then? Isn't it bad to show sides? Look at the UK parliament. You don't see the House Speaker neglecting his duty towards the House. I think Malaysian should look upon the British in improving the relationship between party members especially opposition party members. I am not saying that we have to follow each and everything that the British MPs did but it is wise to follow the good examples which they are doing right now. You don't see war of words which might lead to assaults or any criminal behaviour in or outside the Parliament. That is so uncivilised, don't you think so?

Follow up to this blog which I have posted, I feel that the mighty Karpal Singh should hire a bodyguard. It was featured in this news that he indicated that he might want to employ a bodyguard after what happened to him outside Parliament lately. I think it is high time that he does. I don't see why UMNO Youth behave so unconstitutionally! Where is justice? Just because they think that they are losing out, it does not mean that they should threaten citizens! Who thinks that they have the right to do so?

Shame on you Zambry!

I have read the article below which was taken from The Star Online. I do believe that the matter should not be blown out of proportion. I think with the availability of extra cash from UMNO, I don't think it will be a problem for them to send someone to London to seek advice from a QC. Well, this would show as cash is king.

Moreover, with them seeking the advice from a QC, it would implies that there are no capable lawyers in Malaysia to help him! Don't you think it is funny? I thought that it is best for Malaysians to deal with Malaysian matters. I recall lat time Cherry Blair was invited to deal with a sensitive case in Malaysia. Being a QC herself, she was NOT allowed to represent her client even though it was on her own accord (she pays for her own travelling expenses). What is justice then? It will be alright for BN to employ a more senior lawyer to defend them but it is not allowed if it pertains to an opposition party member? Where is justice?

KUALA LUMPUR: Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir and his six suspended state executive council members are seeking a second opinion from a Queen’s Counsel in London on the constitutional impasse in the state.

According to a source close to the Barisan Nasional, a senior lawyer is leaving for London Monday to meet with the QC.

One of the assemblymen and other lawyers will also be part of the group, said the source.

“The team comprises old and new young lawyers, there is one who was involved in the two chief ministers case in Sabah in 1986.

“They are going to for a second opinion on the purported suspension of the Perak MB and the six assemblymen as well as the suit filed (by Datuk Seri Nizar Jamaluddin on Feb 13) that the MB (Dr Zambry) is purportedly not the MB.”

The constitutional crisis in Perak began early this month after two PKR and one DAP assemblymen left their parties, leading to Nizar to seek Sultan Azlan Shah’s consent to dissolve the state assembly. On Feb 5, the ruler instead declared the Pakatan Rakyat government had lost its majority and appointed Barisan’s Dr Zambry as Mentri Besar.

Nizar and his team have refused to quit and the crisis is now a well truly a constitutional quagmire after State Legislative Assembly Speaker V. Sivakumar on Feb 18 suspended Dr Zambry and his executive council from the assembly for 12 and 18 months, respectively.

Asked whether the lawyers had been instructed by Barisan, the source said they were acting on behalf of Dr Zambry and the six exco members and took instructions from them as the aggrieved party.

On whether they would apply for a QC to represent them in court, the source said:

“No. In addition to seeking a second opinion, they also want an opinion on the position in other Commonwealth jurisdictions, apart from the Sabah and Sarawak cases here.”

Asked whether the legal eagles were getting a QC’s opinion because several legal experts have described the legal impasse as “uncharted constitutional territory”, despite the East Malaysian case precedents, he replied:

“They think the Federal Constitution has been stretched to extreme limits. See how the Speaker unilaterally acted in convening the Rights and Privileges Committee when the Dewan was not in session and suspending the MB and his exco members.”

“That is a clear and direct contravention of the assembly’s Standing Orders and convention as practised in Parliament.”

Asked whether the state legal adviser would represent Dr Zambry and the six in court, the source said that because they were suspended as assemblymen, the question of whether the state legal adviser could do so in that case and act for Dr Zambry in Nizar’s application for a judicial review was also a matter they were seeking a second opinion of from the QC.
