Old Laptop

I was thinking of getting rid of my six year old laptop from Compaq. Family members and friends have said that reviving the laptop is not feasible because there are not many new components in the market to replace the old parts.

Well, I went to Lowyat Vital Computer to get spare parts. It is the only place to get replacements for your laptops. I have to change the battery, the dvd-rom combo drive, a new 160GB IDE hard drive, a usb wireless adaptor, 2GB DDR memory and a Pentium 4 mobile 2.2ghz cpu which is the best that the heatsink and fan of the laptop can comprehend. Well, still, it is a significant boost of power from 1.4ghz right?

In the end, I bought all the above components and spent around RM1100. I know that if I were to pay another RM1000, I can get a laptop which is equipped with an Intel dual core cpu. It will use 80GB SATA hard drive, build in wireless and camera, 1GB of DDR2 memory and 15.4 inch screen. Mine is only 15 inch though.

Anyway, I think it is best to recycle, right? That is what I am doing. I could have bought a brand new laptop but what about the existing laptop then? I don't want to waste the laptop. Anyway, I will continue to use the good old laptop. Although the cpu usage is always cap at around 80 percent when I am playing need for speed underground, need for speed undercover refused to even start as the build in graphics card is merely an ATI Radeon 7500 with 32MB memory.

I believe that old laptops are here to stay!!!
