Apple Macbook Air Killer - MSI X-Slim X340

If you are thinking of buying the Macbook Air, think again. Just look at the Macbook Air. It only has one usb 2.0 and it comes without an internal optical drive. Worst of all, it cost £1340. The specification is as below:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.13Ghz (6MB L2 cache, 1066mhz FSB)

Memory: 2GB DDR3 1066mhz

Hard Disk: 128GB SSD

Graphics: Nvidia 9400M

Screen size: 13.3" diagonal

It comes with one usb 2.0 port, one iSight camera, bluetooth 2.1 with EDR, wireless n adapter and Gigabit LAN.

The Macbook Air is certainly light and thin with the said measurements: 1.94cm(H) x 32.5cm(W) x 22.7cm(D). It weights 1.36kg. What about the Macbook Air killer then?

MSI X-Slim X340

Specifications: 1.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Solo (U3500) CPU; 2GB DDR2 800mhz memory; 320GB Hard Drisk; Intel GMA 4500HD graphics card; 13.4" TFT; HDMI; Wireless n; Gigabit LAN; Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR; 1.3MP camera and one memory card reader. It weights stand at 1.3kg.

When you compare the Macbook Air to the MSI X-Slim X340, you will be able to find some similarities and also the strength and weaknesses of both machines. Let's look into the strength of the Macbook Air as compared to the MSI: It is as light as the MSI but it has better cpu firepower and faster memory (which runs slightly faster). It has similar graphics firepower and it runs on the Mac OS X. Now, the disadvantages of the Macbook Air as compared to the MSI X340 is that it is really not justified to spend a premium of more than £600 for a slightly faster machine with an Apple logo in the front. Compared to the MSI, the Apple Macbook Air only has one usb 2.0 which is just too few usb ports!

One good thing about the MSI X-340 is that it is cheap. Yes, cheap in the sense that it has managed to undercut the Macbook Air by almost £600. The specifications of the X340 is not too bad but its battery could only last up to 4 hours+. Not really good for the X340 though.

Anyway, if I were you, I would stick to a laptop rather than the MSI X-Slim X340 or the Apple Macbook Air. Both of them are a waste of money!!!
