Anti-Smoking Campaign

It was brought to the attention of the health ministry in Malaysia that they are going to roll out a 'Tak Nak' campaign to discourage smokers from being smokers and also to deter people away from wanting to smoke. Well, I think that this idea is great but will it stop people from smoking? Think again.

Cigarettes are made up of many substances including Tar, Nicotine and Benzine. These three items among many chemical substances are pretty bad for health. Research have shown that smokers have a shorter life span compared to non-smokers. Well, I would need to clarify that statement later. We do know that smoking is bad for health but why we still see people smoking and others want to try out?

For a start, smoking is considered to be 'cool'. I do remember that when I was young, my friends started smoking because they do look 'cool'. They were trying to impress their peers that they have a higher status because they know how to smoke. They are seek to smoke everywhere and others who are not smoking had to wonder how good is smoking. It is 'cool'.

Well, there are people who think that by smoking it releases stress. Scientists have shown that when a person smokes, his or her brain functions are being distorted by the chemicals in the cigarette which made them think that they are feeling much better. Most of the smokers told me that the main reason why they smoke is to release stress.

I do believe that the government is trying to educate the public about the danger of smoking but is it going to work? Think about it. Most major sponsers come from tobacco companies because they do have the fund to sponser any events which comes along. Without them, who is going to sponser big events? Well, I think that the government is trying to balance between the good and the bad. Good job!

The question remain... Will the anti-smoking campaign work?
