Mechanically Recovered Meat
Mechanically Recovered Meat (MRM) aside, it is also vital for you guys to look at the ingredients of a product closely. Never ever buy any ready made food which contains less than 50% meat in it. I've watched a programme on BBC Three last night about MRM and I was shocked!!! The title of the programme was 'Britain's Really Disgusting Food' and the presenter is pointing the finger at the FSA for being ignorant about the whole MRM issue.
Good luck guys!

Mobile Phone Risk
I can remember what my mom always advise me not to use my mobile phone for long period of time. I think it all started when she complaint to me that she will get a slight headache if the mobile phone is used close to her ears. I then told her that if that is the case, it will be good if she were to start using speakerphone which is way much better than having the mobile phone closed to her ears.
I do agree with my mom that using a mobile phone closed to your ears for a long period of time will inevitably cause some form of health risk. That is why I have started to cut down on my calls lately and tried to just send more text messages instead. On the average, I would have sent 1000 text messages a month and this is something new to me as I don't used to send many text messages. However, by sending text messages, it is far more cheaper than making a call.
I am quite concerned into the recent study by the World Health Organisation which will conclude that long term use of mobile phone closed to your ears will increase the chance of developing brain cancer. It is worrying but not unexpected. I think what is important is that we stop using mobile phone close to our ears and try to use speakerphone or send text messages instead.

Iphone 3GS Security Risk
I have been researching into the possibility of hacking into the Iphone 3GS and the result is worrying. For those people who are using it as a tool to provide protection over their files will have to take note. The Iphone 3GS does provide users with a simple protection but other than that, it is as good as your normal phone. I don't see why governmental organisations are using the Iphone 3GS as a tool in thinking that it is very safe to use.
I have read reports stating that the earphones on the Iphone across the range (2G,3G and the 3GS) will produce slight electromagnetic shock to customers and the Iphone 3G and 3GS have SAR value of more than 1.33. I don't think it is wise to use them as a tool to receive and to make calls without using a bluetooth headset.
Look at the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic for instance. The SAR is less than 0.70! Can't you see the advantage of it? It will not damage your body as much as the Apple Iphone!!! Think about it.

Comestic Operations
Cosmetic surgery will definately give people especially woman who went through it, a nice figure which is up to their expectations. However, I would suggest that cosmetic surgery should only be the last resort to woman who wants to look good. There are so many ways in which one can look good again. Please, never go under the knife if possible. This is particularly important because if things were to go wrong, there is nothing to suggest that complications will result afterwards.Fingers crossed!

More Expensive Alcohol
There are signs and advertisements designed to stop people from drinking alcohol excessively but I am not sure whether it is working. This is because alcohol is getting cheaper as the day goes by. You can get two bottles of 70cl Whiskey and Gin for only £20! That is quite cheap! Well, you also get deals in every single supermarket. For example, you have a dozen bear costing merely £6! So, what is the government's stand on this issue then?
From the supermaket's point of view, they need to survive so they need to promote their products. On the other hand, they are under the government's pressure to be more civic minded - think about the people's health as in general. My views? You can't stop people from drinking if they want to drink. Perhaps, with the price increase, people will drink less - That is a good view because people do tend to spend more on alcohol now days with the credit crunch. It is evident!

Tax on Chocolate...Is it worth a Try?
The bigger picture over here is that the majority of chocolate consumers are children! If they are going to impose higer taxes on chocolate, children might have to take less of the chocolate and it would mean that chocolate companies will have less revenue, right? Well, if consumption of chocolate is not going to be differ even with the tax, I am pretty fine with it.
I Just don't understand why they want to tax on those people who buy chocolate. Is it a sin? One doctor mentioned that there is a possibility that consumers might have taken too much of chocolate, that results in obesity among children. Hum...

Health Scare
KUALA LUMPUR: The death of a six-year-old boy from Hong Kong on Jan 31, while on transit at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) from Penang, was due to septicaemic shock, secondary to Streptococcal infection, according to clinical and laboratory findings, as well as the post-mortem results.
This is a rare illness most common among children aged five to 15 that causes fever, throat infection, rashes, and complications to the kidney and heart.
Health Minister Datuk Liow Tiong Lai, in a statement yesterday, said there was no risk of infection from the disease.
“With this clarification, it is hoped there will be no confusion among the public and airline passengers,” he said.
The boy arrived in Malaysia via KLIA on Jan 25 for a vacation with his mother and uncle.
According to the mother, three days prior to arriving here, her child had a fever and was treated by their family physician in Hong Kong.
Upon arrival in Malaysia, the boy was well until Jan 28, when he started to develop rashes but since his condition was stable, his family did not seek medical treatment and continued their vacation.
While in Penang on Jan 29, the boy’s mother realised that he was having severe pain in his left knee after having suffered a fall while in Kuala Lumpur. A private practitioner gave symptomatic treatment and the attending doctor did not suspect anything serious.
On Jan 31, the day they were to return to Hong Kong, the mother realised that the rashes had spread and the boy looked sick but they proceeded with their journey home without seeking medical treatment.
However, during transit in KLIA, the child was taken to a private clinic at the airport for treatment. However, he developed seizures and was pronounced dead at 11.37pm. — Bernama

How to get rid of FAT?
I have nothing against the author because he based his research on satistics. I think what people does not realise is that going to a gym to exercise is not the only solution to obesity. Having a few sessions a week in the gym would not stop a person from being obese if he or she continues to eat fatty food! I mean a person's diet would have to change if he or she wants to be slim. That would include a better diet and also doing regular exercise. You do not need to be too extreme in doing exercise because it will result in excessive wear and tear of your tissues. Just be normal and so some exercise regularly and you will be fine. The most important thing is that your eating habits will have to change. Otherwise, one will stay obese!
Besides that, a person would have to have a strong determination to continue staying slim as in continue eating properly and exercise regularly. Otherwise, the weight issue will remain and staying slim is impossible. I think having a good circle of friends are important to share your happiness and also to console you whenever you are down because normally when a person is unhappy, he or she will resort to food. Last but not least, please stay away from fast food!!!

Couch Potato
By Sky News SkyNews - Wednesday, October 31 07:16 am
Up to a third of cancers could be caused by the victim's lifestyle, according to researchers.
The findings suggest 100,000 cases of the disease could be prevented in Britain each year if people did more exercise, stayed slim and followed a healthy diet.
The scientists behind the research published a detailed guide on what to eat and what to do to reduce the odds of getting the disease.
The team, funded by the World Cancer Research Fund, analysed 7,000 studies to give the most comprehensive report on how risk is affected by an individual's lifestyle.
More than 250,000 people a year in Britain develop cancer. Around 160,000 die from the disease.
Research director Professor Martin Wiseman told Sky News: "Whoever you are, whatever you do, there are things you can do that make your likelihood of getting the commonest cancers much less."
The scientists say the public is sometimes confused by conflicting health messages from different studies.
But by pooling results from so many studies, they hope to give an authoritative assessment of how best to reduce the risk of cancer.
Aaron Howlett radically changed his couch potato lifestyle after his GP warned him that he was heading for an early grave.
He was 25 stone. Now he weighs 15 stone and has become a personal fitness trainer.
He said: "By eating lots of broccoli, carrots and other vegetables, combined with moderate exercise, you can reduce some cancers by up to 40%.
"It's not rocket science. If I can do it, anyone can do it."

Obesity
To me, what the authorities are doing would just be something entra that they are doing. I could not imagine parents are not taking care of their children and always rely on the government to do it for them. We should not always rely on the government to do it for us. Why not we do it by ourselves then? Don't you think so?
I mean the parent of a child would notice whether he or she is overweight or pilling on the pounds. They will have the first hand experience when their children go back to the house, not the government! By the authorities issuing warning letters, it will be something over the expectation of responsibility coming from the government.
Obesity is not fatal. There is always a story to it. What is the most important is that parents should be the first to spot anything wrong with their children and talk to them. Never take things for granted.

Check this out Woman!!!
BOSTON (Reuters) - A test that looks for the virus found in 99 percent of cervical tumours is far more effective than a Pap smear for detecting the early stages of cervical cancer, Canadian researchers said on Wednesday.
The test for the human papillomavirus, or HPV, found 95 percent of cases in which women had potentially pre-cancerous changes in the cervix. This compared to 55 percent of Pap smears, the team at McGill University in Montreal found.
"We're proposing to go straight to the HPV test," said team leader Eduardo Franco.
They studied 10,154 women in Montreal and St. John's, Canada, using both the Pap smear -- in which doctors use a little paddle to scrape some cells off the cervix -- and the Qiagen virus test.
Pap tests are examined by pathologists for signs of abnormal cells that could be on their way to becoming tumours. The HPV test looks for two strains of the virus that cause most cases of cervical cancer, which is diagnosed in about 11,000 U.S. women each year, killing nearly 4,000.
Writing in the New England Journal of Medicine, Franco's team said while the HPV test found more cases of active infection and of precancerous lesions, it gave a false positive report in 6 percent of the women.
This is because an HPV infection can disappear without causing cancer, or it may take time for it to produce abnormalities in a cell.
In contrast, the false positive rate is just over 3 percent for a Pap smear.
Franco said that one advantage using the HPV test would be that technicians would probably be more vigilant about reading Pap smears from women already found to be HPV-positive.
A second study, also published in the New England Journal of Medicine, found that combining both types of tests increased the detection rate by 51 percent.
The Swedish study, led by Pontus Naucler of Lund University in Malmo used an HPV test in 12,527 Swedish women in their 30s.
HIGHER COSTS
Using two tests to look for cancer "raises the initial cost, which may limit the applicability of widespread screening in resource-poor countries," Carolyn Runowicz of the University of Connecticut Health Center wrote in a commentary.
Franco said an HPV test costs about $90 (44 pounds) compared to $10 to $20 for a pap test.
Mass production could bring down HPV test costs. If it did, giving that test first and using the Pap smear as a follow-up test "would be a much more cost-effective way of doing screening, and for most women you would only be doing one test instead of doing both," Franco said in a telephone interview.
Women can now be vaccinated against HPV with the Gardasil vaccine from Merck & Co. GlaxoSmithKline has developed its own vaccine, called Cervarix, which has been approved in Europe and Australia.
"Vaccination will not, however, eliminate screening," Franco and his colleagues said.
Gardasil only covers two types of HPV -- numbered 16 and 18 -- responsible for three quarters of tumours. Screening will still be necessary to look for the growths caused by other types of HPV.
And none of the vaccines help women who have already been infected with HPV, which is passed during sexual intercourse

Be Happy, Always
(1) Cut your hair when it is long - With shorter hair, you would feel more relax and
comfortable;
(2) When you feel crap and sad, think about all the good things that happened in
your life. It helps to calm you down;
(3) Have self- control in life - Think before you react; and
(4) Try to smile more often than having a sour face as it will only drag your facial
skin downwards and you might feel old faster.
Please feel free to add more as we go along. :)
